CENTRO MODERN FURNISHINGS

MODERN MOOD

The design of CENTRO is part function, part mood. This store design married loft space with art gallery in a retail environment to create an invigorating oasis for modern design enthusiasts.

“When we bought our Central West End building in 2003, we hired St. Louis architect Susan Bower to convert it from a 1980’s-era art gallery to a furniture showroom. Years of European travel had exposed her to the modern Italian furniture and lighting designs we sell, so she intuitively knew how these brands would best be presented. Her most impactful architectural gesture was replacing three low interior steps with a long, gently sloping ramp to meet ADA code requirements. The resulting entryway allows visitors to take-in our large open space while ascending Susan’s diagonal cut-in ramp. It was a great solution which serves two functional purposes: safe and easy access for our guests, including those with mobility challenges, and ease of loading-in furniture deliveries.”
