MODERN MEETS MID-CENTURY
The elegant modern addition forms an outdoor courtyard with a mid-century house. In the dialog between old and new, the addition provides everything the original house was lacking including a mudroom. powder room, owners’ suite and good insulation.
The addition is black brick while the original is painted wood siding with accents of red brick. The original has transparent glass areas while the addition has solid, pattered walls. A shade porch with brick screen walls provides privacy for the bedroom at the end of the addition.
The powder room tree was planted by the owner’s father and reaches up to the tall sloping ceiling.
Sliding panel doors close off smaller rooms, and when opened, they close off hallways.
The outdoor living area provides views of the backyard and is anchored by the existing maple tree. Areas landscaped with rocks and stepping stones add texture and aid drainage.
